Awok.com: UAE online consumers still prefer cash payment

Data compiled by online retailer awok.com and released on Thursday show most UAE consumers continue to prefer using cash-on-delivery to make purchases.

Data indicates that on average, cyber shoppers spend 500 dirhams minimum per transaction. Consumer electronics take up 57 percent of purchases, while home and kitchen-appliance purchases are second, at 14 percent. Photography and cameras generate 4 percent of sales.

"There is still a disconnect in trust for online purchase, vs. online payment, as well as accessibility for card-payment methods for some segments of society," Ulugbek Yuldashev, founder and CEO of awok.com said. "However, we appreciate that not everyone wants to pay through a card, and awok.com caters to all preferences."

Awok.com data also shows males make up 76 percent of online shoppers, and that mobile technology plays a big role in online shopping, with Android users making up 72 percent of shoppers.
