Qatar Railways receives second ISO certification

Qatar Railways Company, the firm supervising the building of the integrated railway network in Qatar, recently received International Standards Organization (ISO) certification OHSAS 18001:2007 for its occupational safety and health management systems.

Before receiving the certification, officials from Lloyds Register Quality Assurance conducted an audit of the company’s management systems.

This marks Qatar Rail’s second ISO certification in less than two months. In May 2015, the company achieved ISO 9001:2008 certification, which pertains to quality management. To receive this certification, the company had to meet the requirements for a quality management system, enabling an organization to show that its operations consistently meet applicable statutory, customer and regulatory requirements.

Qatar Rail received the certificate at a ceremony in Doha. Attendees included Dr. Fahad Al-Jaber (QSHESE Director), Mr. Brian Baxter (Area Field Service Manager at Lloyds), and Eng. Hamad Al Bishri (Deputy Chief Executive Officer).

"This is a key milestone for our company, as it indicates not only Qatar Rail's commitment toward health and safety governance and assurance management, but more importantly, a framework for continuous improvement and excellence in delivery,” Deputy CEO Eng. Hamad Al Bishri said. “I thank all of the Qatar Rail team and LRQA for their efforts in making this possible.”
