Qatar Airways opens eighth route to Saudi Arabia with new flights to Abha

Qatar Airways has launched new flights to Abha in Saudi Arabia, making the city the airline’s eighth destination in the Kingdom.

Abha International Airport will now have four weekly flights, with the inaugural flight landing in Abha on Sept. 2.

The inaugural Qatar Airways flight was welcomed with a traditional water salute at the airport, and was followed by a ceremony hosted by Qatar Airways Senior Vice President Ali Al-Rais.

At the ceremony, the airport’s Assistant Vice President of Domestic Airports, Tariq Al-Abdul Jabbar, welcomed the first Qatar Airways flight to Abha. The welcome was followed by an exchange of gifts with Abha International Airport officials.

"We have been steadily growing our presence and services to Saudi Arabia for the past 18 years," Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Akbar Al Baker said. "As our eighth destination in the Kingdom, Abha will bring additional flexibility for passengers connecting from Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the Americas.”

From Abha, passengers will be able to connect to global destinations through Qatar Airways’ hub in Doha’s Hamad International Airport. Travelers from Abha will have easier access to popular cities such as London, Paris, Bangkok, Singapore, New York and Los Angeles.

Flights between Doha and Abha will run Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

Qatar Airways is located at 1201 Fannin St., Houston.
