Bahrain's Central Bank sells off sheets of uncut banknotes

The Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) offered the public the opportunity to buy a wholly uncut sheet of Bahraini 5 dinar banknotes Thursday.

The uncut sheet of 5 dinar banknotes comes from the fourth issue of the Bahraini currency, which was released in March of 2008. They are still in circulation.

CBB offered up to 500 sheets for sale, with each sheet containing 40 uncut banknotes with consecutive serial numbers. Each sheet costs about $600.

The Currency Issue Directorate at the Central Bank of Bahrain said the sale is the third time CBB has sold off uncut sheets of banknotes. Previously, sheets of half-dinar notes were sold in 2005, and in 2012, CBB offered up sheets of 1 dinar notes. Those earlier sales proved to be quite successful, drawing in local and international currency collectors.

This week's sale took place at the Central Bank of Bahrain’s Currency Issue Directorate, located in the Diplomatic Area.
