The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) recently held meetings specifically for its real-estate sector committee to resolve problems with how the new Standard Specifications for Construction Works will affect sectors.

Dr. Hasan Kamal, head of the real-estate sector committee, led the meetings to address the updated Standard Specifications for Construction Works. The general directorate of urban planning of the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and urban Planning approved of the revision.

The meetings were held in three sessions and included representatives from the Bahrain Society of Engineers, Bahrain Real Estate Society and the Bahrain Contractors Society.

The treasurer from the chamber and the head of the construction sector committee also attended in order to unite the feedback from all of the agencies. The information will be sent to the general directorate of urban planning in order to remedy any problems.

The three sessions focused on several issues, such as the specifications of features estates, the kinds of residential buildings and the space needed for their development, the specifications for building offices, private properties based on commercial avenues and parking spaces that are allowed, among other subjects.

Because of the sessions, the leaders created a list of several issues that need to be resolved. They recommend a grace period before the new law is applied. They also recommend a specific law for the stories and spaces dedicated to investment and commercial estates, more parking spaces for commercial and residential estates and raising the space for office construction.
