Qatar schools urged to adopt new internet domain

Qatar's Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) is encouraging schools to adopt a new Qatar-specific internet domain in an effort to showcase their uniqueness in the gulf.

"As part of CRA’s mandate to manage access to digital media, and to enable the development of a digital society for Qatar’s continued journey to be a smart, connected nation, CRA has introduced .sch.qa to schools operational in Qatar," CRA spokesperson Faisal Ali Al-Shuaibi said. "This will bring a higher level of differentiation to the online presence of educational institutions in Qatar."

The CRA says the new domain will allow schools to establish a stronger connection with their audience because it is distinct from the .edu.qa currently used by higher education institutions.

“This is an excellent opportunity for all schools that currently have websites with .edu.qa domain names to transition to .sch.qa extension and help establish the correct domain positioning of their institution,” Al-Shuaibi said.

Qatar's internet domain names are managed by the Qatar Domains Registry. Government, nonprofit organizations and military bodies also have unique domain names.
