The group that oversees drafting of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) for the kingdom of Bahrain participated in a workshop Nov. 28-30, hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Keynote speakers at the workshop included Mohsen Awadh, international expert in human rights reports, and Marta Vallejo from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Amman.

The event was held as part of the preparation work conducted by Bahrain prior to the proposal of the third report related to the strategic plan of UPR on Human Rights in its third round.

The workshop aims to help prepare the UPR working team and the supervisory committees concerned with human rights conventions to adequately prepare reports related to human rights, specifically the UPR report, that fall in line with global guidelines with respect to content and style.

The kingdom of Bahrain was the first country to offer a report in 2008, before submitting its second report four years later. It is also the first country in the world to submit a third UPR report, projected for May 2017.
