Qatar airport joins Chinese New Year celebration

Qatar Duty Free (QDF) and China UnionPay International recently began offering travelers the chance to earn prizes as part of the celebration of China's new year, which officially begins on Jan. 28.

Any Doha Hamad International Airport traveler using a UnionPay card to purchase at least $410 worth of QDF products, including fragrances, cosmetics, skincare, confectionery, and other gift items, will be entered into a prize drawing to receive a traditional Chinese red envelope containing a shopping voucher for QDF outlets.

QDF personnel throughout airport will be dressed in traditional Chinese apparel to welcome travelers, and much of the airport will reflect the celebration as well.

"We are very happy to celebrate Chinese New Year in collaboration with UnionPay International," Luis Gassett, QDF's senior vice president, said. "QDF recognizes the significance of this holiday to its customers. Our partnership with UnionPay International is a fantastic opportunity for us to reward our valued guests …[and] allow QDF to share in the spirit of the holiday season with our travelers."

As the primary retail operator at Qatar's airport, QDF has earned numerous awards for its retail service, and the Qatari Airways' website lists the airport one of the world's top five airport destinations for shopping.

QDF operates more than 70 retail stores at the airport, offering fashion, electronic goods and more, and more than 30 food and beverage venues.

Credit card numbers must begin with 62 to be eligible, and prizes must be redeemed by Feb. 9. The promotion ends on Feb. 7.
