Sudanese delegation, Qatar official discuss Darfur pact

The deputy prime minister of Qatar met with a Sudanese delegation on Jan. 24 to evaluate the status of their countries' relationship and discuss the recent Darfur peace agreement.

Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud talked with Musa Mohamed Ahmed, assistant to the president of Sudan, about ways to enhance all areas of bilateral relations. Also in attendance were Amin Hassan Omer, the Sudanese presidential envoy for Diplomatic Contact and Negotiation over Darfur, and Fath Al Rahman Ali Mohammed, Sudan's ambassador to Qatar.

The participants agreed that they saw progress in the situation in Darfur, especially in light of the agreement between the government and the Sudan Liberation Army/Movement, which was founded by members of indigenous ethnic groups.
