The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) recently announced that Dr. Layla Al Marzouqi, director of DHA’s Medical Tourism Council, was elected chairwoman of the World Travel and Tourism Council during the Global Healthcare Travel Forum in Amman, Jordan.

Al Marzouqi becomes the first Emirati woman to hold the position.

The forum, held under the patronage of King Abdullah II bin Al Hussain of Jordan, brought together more than 500 medical professionals from around the globe who sought to gain knowledge on medical and wellness tourism.

Humaid Al Qatami, chairman of the board and director general of the DHA, said the chair position is important as it is an opportunity to showcase advanced models of medical tourism.

Al Qatami noted that Dubai’s win reflects the vision of Shaikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates, as well as the continuous support of Shaikh Hamdan bin Mohammad bin Rashd Al Maktoum, crown prince of Dubai, and Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, deputy ruler of Dubai, finance minister and president of the DHA.
