Council of Saudi Chambers issued the following announcement on Nov. 27.

ADU is currently hosting Jenan Abu-Hakmeh, a recipient of the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award, for the 2019-2020 academic year through the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program. Abu-Hakmeh will undertake research at ADU, under the advisement of Dr. Fauzia Jabeen, Associate Professor of Management in the College of Business at ADU, as part of a project which seeks to investigate the influence of gender parity legislation on working women in the UAE.

Abu-Hakmeh is one of over 800 U.S. citizens who will teach, conduct research, and/or provide expertise for the 2019-2020 academic year through the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program. Recipients of Fulbright awards are selected based on both academic and professional achievement, as well as record of service and demonstrated leadership in their respective fields.

Commenting on the exchange program, Dr. Fauzia Jabeen, Associate Professor of Management and Ms. Abu-Hakmeh’s Fulbright advisor at ADU’s College of Business, said, “The Fulbright is one of the most renowned international educational exchange programs worldwide, and truly serves to build lasting connections between U.S. scholars and their counterparts from around the world. The projects sponsored by The Fulbright Program are an asset in establishing collaborative research programs globally, and Ms. Abu-Hakmeh’s contributions will undoubtedly fortify ADU’s current research efforts. Furthermore, her study has the potential to help policymakers and related associations formulate and develop policies to strengthen female empowerment, both regionally and globally”.

Jenan Abu-Hakmeh said: "It is indeed a great honor to be a recipient of the Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award and to represent the United States in this cultural exchange program organized by Abu Dhabi University. I am very eager to learn more about the UAE and its exemplary approach to empower women through establishing the Gender Balance Council that ensures that Emirati women continue to play a leading role in the development of the UAE. I am also extremely excited to be conducting my research at ADU under the supervision of Dr. Fauzia Jabeen."

Fulbrighters address critical global challenges in all disciplines, while building relationships, knowledge, and leadership in support of the long-term interests of the United States. Fulbright alumni have achieved distinction in many fields, including 59 who have been awarded the Nobel Prize, 84 who have received Pulitzer Prizes, and 37 who have served as a head of state or government.
