Elsevier names recipients of Qatar University Scientists 2015 Scopus Awards

Elsevier and Qatar University's Research Office last week named the winners of the Qatar University Scientists 2015 Scopus Awards, which honor young researchers working in academia.

Recipients included: Abdullah Kaid Al-Swidi, of the Department of Management & Marketing; Mert Atilhan, of the Department of Chemical Engineering; Ahmen M. Megreya, of the Department of Psychological Sciences;  Mohsen Guizani, of the Department of Computer Engineering; and Mohammed Izham Mohamed Ibrahim, of the College of Pharmacy.

“I am extremely pleased to see Qatar University's researchers are being awarded for their research output,” Abdul Sattar Al-Taie, director of the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF), said. “It is also impressive that, based on the presented data we see a sharp rise in Qatar University's research output quantity since 2007, and that is a clear reflection of QNRF's strategy for funding research.”

Sheika Abdulla Al-Misnad, president of the university, presented the awards last week during a ceremony held at the school in Doha, Qatar. More than 40 people from the country's scientific community attended the event.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Elsevier for their initiative and for choosing Qatar University as the first university in the Middle East Region to receive the Scopus awards,” Al-Misnad said. “I would also like to congratulate the winning researchers and the Research Office for their achievements. The awards bear testimony to the outstanding level of work and the significant contributions these researchers have been making in their respective fields. This has been an excellent opportunity to recognize the talent, knowledge and expertise of researchers at Qatar University, and we look forward to making this award program a recurring and long-lasting tradition here at Qatar University."
