Dairy Queen (DQ), the U.S.-based soft-serve ice cream and fast food chain owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, has opened a new outlet at the Marina Mall in Salmiya, Kuwait.

The new location is the Gulf nation’s first DQ, while Kuwait is the 27th country the company has expanded operations to outside the U.S. and Canada.

Dairy Queen is partnering with Durra Khaled For Foodstuffs Co. to develop the franchise in Kuwait, with plans to develop more than 20 more DQ locations in Kuwait over the next five years.

“We believe there is an incredible growth opportunity in this region,” John Gainor, Dairy Queen’s CEO, said. “The partnership with Durra Khaled for Foodstuffs Co. has allowed us to successfully re-launch our brand in Kuwait. Their wealth of business experience and diverse portfolio across the Middle East is a huge asset to [DQ] as we continue to invest and build on our global brand equity.”

The new Marina Mall restaurant has a full DQ Grill and Chill menu, including chicken strip baskets, burgers, sandwiches and salads. The menu will, of course, be anchored by the company’s famous ice cream treats and beverages, including the iconic Blizzard, soft-serve cones, and sundaes.

The new Dairy Queen in Kuwait comes on the heels of the brand’s recent launch in the United Arab Emirates earlier this summer. Dairy Queen now has a network of more than 6,500 locations, with 1,457 of them outside the U.S. and Canada.
