Samsung C&T to construct water and power project in Qatar

Samsung C&T announced its participation in the Facility D Independent Water and Power Project (IWPP) in Qatar.

The company received the Letter of Award for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of a 2,500-megawatt combined cycle power plant (CCPP) from Umm Al Houl Power, a special purpose company dedicated for the development of the project.

The Facility D IWPP was ordered by Kahramaa, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corp., to construct a 2,500-megwatt CCPP and a 130-million gallons per day desalination plant. The facility will be constructed 9 miles south of Doha and will be completed in June 2018.

The project was developed in partnership with Mitsubishi Corp. and will take on $1.8 billion worth of EPC works out of a total contract of $2.46 billion.

In 2011, Samsung C&T successfully delivered Al Shuweihat S2 Independent Water and Power Project in UAE and recently completed a 1,716-megwatt Dongducheon CCPP in Korea. In addition, the company is working on projects worldwide including a 2,100-megawatt CCPP in Saudi Arabia and a 920-megawatt power plant in Turkey.
