MARACAD to bring maritime experts together in November

The inaugural Maritime Academic Conference & Expo (MARACAD) is set to open November 9 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

MARACAD's purpose is to highlight the growing importance and international profile of the growing maritime sector in the United Arab Emirates.

The two-day event will gather international maritime industry leaders, senior UAE government officials and major sector stakeholders together to hear from top experts in the field. Experts at MARACAD will offer presentations and discussions on how to implement innovative best practices for the UAE’s maritime sector.

It will also focus on how investing in worker training programs and the latest in marine technologies can strengthen the region’s industry. The overall goal is to nurture sustainable development in the industry.

"This is a significant event for the fleets operating in Arab countries, which in the last three decades have witnessed remarkable growth,” the event’s host Dr. Alia Al Hussein said. “Studies have shown that Arab-flagged passenger, dry and liquid cargo ships and the commercial fleets have increased. Ninety percent of the imports and exports are shipped by sea.”

Al Hussein said he’s optimistic for continued growth in the region’s sea trade and that the conference will help shape that growth in coming years.
