U.S. Consul General to Dubai Paul Malik and U.S. Agricultural Counselor Quintin Gray recently visited the new Al Maya Supermarket in Dubai's Muraqqabat neighborhood.

The U.S. officials were welcomed by Al Maya Group Director Kamal Vachani and discussed ways of increasing trade between U.S. companies and Al Maya, whose 40 markets across the region import large volumes of fast moving consumer goods from the U.S.

Malik is a seasoned international trade expert, having previously served as the deputy director of the Office of Multilateral Trade Affairs, in addition to tenures at U.S. embassies in Lebanon, Greece, Jordan, Morocco, Tunisia and Ireland. Prior to assuming his new post in Dubai last year, Malik spent two years as the deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Oman.

Al Maya officials said the U.S. officials enjoyed their visit to the new market, which Al Maya describes as "state of the art."
