Telecommunications operator Zain Group, based in Kuwait, is participating in the 2016 EFG Sailing Arabia - The Tour (SATT), which kicked off in Dubai on Monday.

Zain is being supported by telecommunications equipment company Huawei and law firm Clifford Chance.

“The remarkable third-place finish by the Zain sailing team in 2015 has spurred us on to seek further success in this year’s race," Zain Group CEO Scott Gegenheimer said. "As a leading telecom brand that values team work, bold actions and a sense of adventure, we are delighted to again support this important cultural tradition of sailing in the region, with its environmentally friendly image, promotion of physical activity, technical precision and coordination."

Organized by Oman Sail, SATT is the leading offshore sailing race in the Gulf region and aims to highlight the benefits of sailing while also showcasing the beautiful Arabian coast.

Each year top amateur and professional sailors from four continents are drawn to the competition featuring fleets of identical Farr 30 yachts. The race, which is now in its sixth year, is focused on testing crew members skills, ability to work as a team and ability to adapt to a variety of sailing obstacles and situations.

For this year's race, the traditional route has been redesigned to include six of the region's most prestigious sailing venues.

The competition ends Feb. 29 in Muscat.
