The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently hosted
a trade delegation from Ireland, which was headed by Charles Flanagan, minister for foreign affairs and trade in Ireland.

 

Ibrahim Al-Mahmoud, first deputy chairman of the
Abu Dhabi Chamber, welcomed the delegation with a speech about strengthening bilateral
relations between the two countries.

 

“Ireland was successful in building an economy that is based
on knowledge and in developing a number of sectors such as IT, biology, food
and tourism, and in attracting foreign direct investments,”
Al-Mahmoud said. “These are the same sectors which
the plans and strategies of Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 looks towards
improving. Thus, we are very determined to benefit from your experiences in
building a knowledge-based economy through cooperating with Irish companies
specialized in knowledge and advanced technologies.”

 

For his part, Flanagan pointed to strong economic relations
between the two regions that goes back 40 years. He called upon Emirati
businesses to boost their investments in Ireland, emphasizing his country’s
commitment to sustainable development.

Patrick Hennessy, ambassador of Ireland to the UAE, and Dr.
Al-Taher Al-Kindi, second deputy chairman of the Abu Dhabi Chamber, also attended
the meeting.
