Abu Dhabi Ports, which develops, operates and manages the ports and industrial zones in the emirate, said Sunday it is handling more cargo than ever before.

The Khalifa Port Container Terminal has seen container volumes increase by 41 percent in the first seven months of 2015 over the same period last year.

The increased traffic at Khalifa comes on the heels of rapid growth in polymer exports and transhipment activity across the Gulf. More than 772,000 shipping containers were handled in the first seven months of 2015.

Abu Dhabi Terminals has also been busy setting new productivity records. The operations team handled the vessel APL Boston with an average gross crane productivity of nearly 40 gross moves per hour (GMPH). That adds up to berth productivity result of more than 135 GMPH during an almost 20 hour port stay.

“Our ability to handle record loads across the cargo and transportation market has been facilitated by our commitment to implementing operational efficiencies and adopting next-generation technologies,”

Abu Dhabi Ports CEO Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi said.

Abu Dhabi Ports has been investing heavily in upgraded infrastructure, implementing new technologies and bringing in new equipment to expand operations and continue providing service to the world’s largest shipping lines.
