ADNOC, Masdar, XRG, and Microsoft have announced a new agreement to accelerate the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in ADNOC’s operations and support Microsoft’s global AI and data center expansion. The announcement was made at the ENACT Majlis in Abu Dhabi ahead of ADIPEC.
The collaboration expands on an existing partnership between ADNOC and Microsoft by bringing Masdar and XRG into the effort. Together, the companies will work on sustainable energy projects and infrastructure aimed at supporting Microsoft’s growing need for energy as it builds out its AI and data center capabilities worldwide.
Under the agreement, ADNOC and Microsoft will jointly develop and implement AI agents to increase efficiency through autonomous operations across ADNOC’s value chain. Microsoft will provide advanced AI tools and training programs for employees. Both organizations also plan to explore creating a joint innovation ecosystem focused on solutions for the energy sector.
His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, Executive Chairman of XRG, and Chairman of Masdar, stated: “As AI continues to reshape how value is created and enhanced across industries, ADNOC, Masdar and XRG are not only embedding AI into every layer of our operations – we are also advancing the energy systems that will power AI itself. Through our partnership with Microsoft, we are unlocking new opportunities to fuel the future of AI, drive greater performance, and future-proof our business.”
ADNOC reports that it was the first energy company to deploy generative AI enterprise-wide in November 2023 using Microsoft Copilot. Since then, more than 40,000 employees have completed AI training with high utilization rates reported.
Brad Smith, Vice Chair and President of Microsoft said: “No single company or industry can meet this moment alone. Accelerating the transition to a more sustainable, secure, and inclusive energy future requires deep collaboration between governments, energy providers, technology companies, and innovators everywhere.”
The companies say this collaboration supports Abu Dhabi’s role as a hub for global energy innovation by combining industrial leadership from ADNOC with digital expertise from Microsoft along with clean energy contributions from Masdar and XRG. The agreement follows publication of ADNOC and Microsoft’s 2025 Powering Possible Report which collected insights from over 850 experts on how AI is changing the energy sector.
