Low-cost airline Air Arabia Jordan’s inaugural flight took place on Monday, with a flight to Kuwait City. The airline plans to launch service to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; Erbil, Iraq; and Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.

Air Arabia Jordan is hoping to play a larger role in the development of Jordan’s economy by attracting more business professionals and tourism to the country.

“The kingdom’s newest carrier provides Jordan-based passengers with cost-effective options to travel across the region while offering excellent value-for-money opportunities for regional travelers to visit Jordan,” Riad Khashman, chairman of Air Arabia Jordan, said. “We thank the local authorities for their continuous support and presence today; we are confident that being a national Jordanian carrier based in Amman, Air Arabia Jordan will play an important role in supporting the ongoing economic growth and tourism development of Jordan.”

Earlier in 2015, the airline opened its international hub in Jordan after its acquisition of 49 percent of Petra Airlines.

“Jordan is a country full of potential, with its steady economy and historical attractions,” Adel Ali, group CEO of Air Arabia, said. “Therefore, the kingdom’s travel and tourism growth is a key driver for its sustainable economic development. Today marks the start of a new era of value air travel for people in Jordan and across the Levant. We are confident that Air Arabia Jordan will complement and positively contribute to the overall aviation growth from and into the kingdom.”
