Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) announced on Mar. 15 that it has begun a controlled and safe shutdown of its Reduction Lines 1, 2 and 3. The company said this targeted action is intended to optimize the use of existing raw materials and focus on maintaining operational stability in Reduction Lines 4, 5 and 6.

The move is aimed at ensuring production resilience while managing working capital and developing alternatives to reduce exposure to short-term supply volatility. Alba stated that by concentrating strategic raw material inputs on the most sustainable operating configuration, it hopes to maintain reliable operations during this period.

As part of the shutdown strategy, Alba will carry out structured asset care and maintenance for the affected lines. This includes comprehensive housekeeping and cleaning activities designed to preserve equipment integrity. The company said these efforts will lay the groundwork for a safe restart of the lines once conditions improve.

The shutdown process is being conducted with an emphasis on minimizing health, safety, environmental, and operational risks while protecting the long-term performance of assets. Alba also confirmed that it continues to monitor developments closely and will provide updates as needed.

The company is working with suppliers and customers to manage commitments and limit disruption. “The safety of Alba’s employees and contractors’ personnel, the protection of its assets, and the reliability of supply to customers remain Alba’s highest priorities,” according to the statement.
