American University of Sharjah issued the following announcement on April 30.

As part of its Sharakah program, American University of Sharjah (AUS) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Al Dhafra Schools—Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, at a special ceremony held today, April 30, on the university campus. The Sharakah program is a strategic initiative of the AUS Office of Enrollment Management with selected schools from around the country.

Ali Shuhaimy, Executive Director of Enrollment Management at AUS, and David Evans, Vice Principal of Al Dhafra Schools—Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions.

The agreement highlights university’s role in the recruitment of outstanding students from varied socio-cultural and economic backgrounds. According to the MoU, AUS will provide partial scholarships to deserving students nominated by the school. AUS will also offer patronage of selected research, cultural, social, and sporting events organized by the school, in addition to organizing workshops for the school’s faculty and staff. The university will also make SAT, TOEFL and IELTS preparation courses available to the students of Al Dhafra—Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

Commenting on the agreement, Shuhaimy said:

“Sharakah is a very important initiative for us as it helps us build partnerships with schools across the UAE. We are very pleased to be signing this MoU with Al Dhafra Schools—Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, and welcome them to our Sharakah family.”

Speaking on the occasion, Evans said:

“It is through partnerships like this that we try to make sure our students have a seamless transition into university. Only through communication and dialog can we truly prepare our students for their next academic step. It’s an exciting time for Al Dhafra and we hope this partnership is a very successful one.”

Also present on the occasion were Kevin Mitchell, AUS Interim Provost, and alumni from Al Dhafra schools who are now enrolled at AUS.
