American University of Sharjah issued the following announcement on April 26.

Hundreds of students turned up at the university’s Student Center to cast their votes at the annual student clubs and organizations elections on April 22. Prior to the elections, the students were given the opportunity to campaign and promote their causes. The two days of campaigning created a lively atmosphere in the Student Center with cultural performances accompanied by traditional music.

Elections for both cultural and interest-oriented clubs were conducted via an online voting system that ran over a period of six hours. As the elections concluded, crowds of students gathered in excitement to hear the results. The newly elected club board members will assume office in the 2018–2019 academic year.

“Congratulations to all newly elected ethnic and interest-oriented student club board members and all the appointed board members of academically linked student societies and associations. We are glad that many students seized the leadership opportunities offered through these elections. The nominations, campaigns and elections served as a platform for our students to promote teamwork and camaraderie and to hone their leadership, organizational and planning skills. I wish all our student clubs a productive year ahead,” said Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Dean of Students.

The elections were organized by the Office of Student Affairs’ Student Clubs and Organizations division.
