For the second year in a row the Helen Lansdowne Resor Scholarship has been awarded to an American University of Sharjah student.
Tasneem Karamallah, now in her fourth year as a visual communications student in the AUS College of Architecture, Art and Design, was honored with the $10,000 academic scholarship, as well as the opportunity to intern at the regional J. Walter Thompson office in summer 2017. Following graduation, Karamallah will be considered for possible employment with the office.
“I have infinite interest in everything related to design,”

Karamallah said. “What really motivates me is my questioning nature. It is the reason why I chose the creative field. The exciting little journeys that the design process takes me on opened up my eyes to see the world from a different perspective. I am still learning and I want to continue striving for excellence in my education.”
The award is meant to serve the women breaking into the field of advertising as well as offer support and guidance to those students whose goals are to pursue creative careers. The scholarship is named after the first female copywriter within the industry and an employee of J. Walter Thompson.
“We are very proud of Tasneem’s significant accomplishment,” Kevin Badni, head of the AUS Department of Art and Design, said. “To receive this scholarship is a great honor as students are selected from across the world.”
“This is the second year in a row that a student from the Department of Art and Design has been selected,” Badni said. “The recipient last year was Rawan Obaid, an AUS student majoring in multimedia design. Only
three Helen Lansdowne Resor Scholarships were awarded last year, so we are very pleased with this extraordinary achievement.”
