Rapid growth across many sectors of the Qatar economy makes this an ideal time to focus on the importance of arbitration, the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Qatar said recently, as it scheduled a panel discussion on the topic.

“Party Participation in an
Arbitration,” which will be held on Feb. 21, will showcase
speakers from leading companies and international organizations,
including Stephen Hibbert of Qatar Rail, Michael Mitchell of
the
Qatar Foundation, Thomas Wilson of Squire Patton Boggs, and
Christopher Newmark, who will represent the ICC’s Global Commission
on Arbitration and ADR.

“After the successful
launch of the Arbitration Series last month and its positive
reception, we are happy to continue to share knowledge on
arbitration
and ADR with the Qatari business community” Khalifa bin Jassim Al
Thani,
chairman of the ICC Qatar and
executive board member of
the ICC International Secretariat, said.

Al
Thani said hundreds of disputes arise from the thousands of trade
contracts that are signed every year, so understanding arbitration
particularly useful.

A key focus of our work has
been to ensure that all businesses operating in Qatar have knowledge
of and access to the best possible dispute resolution mechanisms
administered in the most efficient manner,”
he said.
