The Bahrain Institute of Banking and Finance (BIBF) recently held its third Bangor University alumni reunion in Bahrain.
Among the attendees were British Ambassador to Bahrain Simon Martin, Bangor University President and Vice Chancellor John Hughes, and BIBF Board Chairman and Central Bank of Bahrain Governor Rasheed Mohammed Al Maraj.
The reunion was held the day after students in Bangor-validated programs received degrees during BIBF’s annual graduation.
The BIBF, in collaboration with Bangor University, launched its International Diploma and Undergraduate Programs in 2004 with the first cohort of students graduating three years later. Over 450 BIBF students have gone on to complete an honors degree at Bangor University. Those degrees are in the areas of banking and finance, accounting and finance, and business studies and finance.
During the reunion, Central Bank of Bahrain Superintendent  Amina Rashid Al-Alaiwi was presented with the first Bangor University/BIBF Alumnus of the Year award. The award acknowledges Bangor/BIBF program graduates who have earned professional distinction as well as given back to their community through volunteer work.
Al-Alaiwi obtained a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Bangor University, studying there from 2009 to 2010.
