Bahrain’s
Ministry of Foreign Affairs recently summoned Iraq’s minister to
Bahrain to denounce statements by two Iraqi leaders regarding
judicial sentences imposed on convicts that targeted the police.

During the meeting, Waheed Mubarak Sayyar, Bahrain’s
undersecretary for Regional and GCC Affairs, told Ahmed Rasheed Al
Dalimi that his country rejects any interference regarding its
independent judiciary. He asked for an end to those types of remarks
made recently by Iraqi Vice President Nouri Al Maliki and a spokesman
for the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, calling them a violation of the
charters of the Arab League, the United Nations and the Organization of
Islamic Cooperation.

He added that such remarks can do damage to relations
between the two countries and hamper efforts to improve those ties. The undersecretary also conveyed
Bahrain’s support of security and stability for Iraq and its
people.
