Engineering
and construction firm Bechtel has extended its commitment to Saudi Arabian industrial
cities Jubail and Ras Al Khair to continue working in the area of management
services, as it has done since the mid-1970s.
Confirmation
of the agreement means that the Royal Commission for both cities can rely on
the U.S. firm, which has previously undertaken major construction projects in
Saudi Arabia. These projects include two airports and an aluminum smelter, in addition to the currently underway Riyadh Metro.
“Bechtel is a key part of our team, and they have played
a major role in helping us to plan and implement the growth of Jubail and Ras
Al Khair,” Mosleh Al-Otaibi, CEO of the Royal Commission for
Jubail, said. “With their help and partnership, we will continue to develop these
cities which support Saudi Arabia’s economy.”
Bechtel’s imminent focus will be on residential development,
schools, medical facilities and supportive infrastructure for the industrial
complexes.
Jubail is
unique in origin, having been planned “from the sand up” as a development now
known as the world’s largest single industrial project. Ras Al Khair, located
60 kilometers north of Jubail, is also known as the “Minerals Industrial City” and has
produced significant aluminum for the kingdom since 2010.
“Jubail is one of the world’s iconic engineering
projects,” Toby Seay, president of Bechtel’s global
infrastructure business, said. “We’re delighted to build on our successful,
longstanding relationship with the Royal Commission, which is based on a
strong, collaborative partnership.”
Bechtel is headquartered in San Francisco, California.
