An app created by three graduates of

Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar has taken top honors at the Qatar IT Business
Awards, 2016.

Haris Aghadi, Abdulla AlKhenji and Noshin Nisa
from the information systems program at CMU-Q won Tech Startup of the Year at the awards event for developing Meddy, an app that offers valuable
information on health officials and physicians in Qatar.

The Tech Startup of the Year honor is given to the startup
that has proven strong customer service, innovative ICT solutions and dramatic
growth. The awards ceremony is hosted by the Ministry of Transport and
Communications and recognizes the up and comers in Qatar’s technology sector.

The app works as a voice for residents who want
to share their experiences with doctors in Qatar. Users can access a list of
physicians organized by specialty services and can read the doctor’s
credentials and reviews from patients. The app launched with a list of 200
doctors in 2014 and has grown to host more than 1,000 doctors and 130 private
health care clinics.

The next step for the app is to launch in the Arabic
language. Meddy was first developed by Aghadi and AlKhenji at Carnegie Mellon
Qatar and Nisa joined the effort as the product designer.

“As more students see startups succeed, they will realize that
they too can pursue something they believe in,” CMU-Q graduate Sabih Bin
Wasi said. “Meddy’s win is epic.”

In entrepreneurship efforts, Bin Wasi, in partnership with
CMU-Q grads Rukhsar Neyaz Khan and Jiyda Moussa, designed Metis, an app for
help with university course planning.
