A consortium comprising Zain Omantel International (ZOI), PCCW Global, Sparkle, and Telecom Egypt has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop the Asia-Africa-Europe-2 (AAE-2) subsea cable system. This initiative aims to establish a high-capacity digital link from Hong Kong and Singapore to Italy through Thailand, the Arabian Peninsula, and Egypt.

The AAE-2 project is designed to provide enhanced connectivity across Asia, Africa, and Europe. It will feature extensions to additional destinations along its route, supporting cloud services and digital transformation efforts in these regions. The project intends to integrate subsea and terrestrial infrastructure for a resilient data highway.

Building on the legacy of the AAE-1 cable, AAE-2 will incorporate advanced technology to meet growing traffic demands. The collaboration among ZOI, PCCW Global, Sparkle, and Telecom Egypt aims to deliver robust internet infrastructure that facilitates faster data transfer across multiple regions.

Sohail Qadir of ZOI stated: “This collaboration marks a defining milestone for ZOI and the region we proudly serve.” Frederick Chui of PCCW Global expressed pride in contributing to AAE-2 following their role in AAE-1’s success. Enrico Bagnasco of Sparkle highlighted that AAE-2 aligns with their strategy to enhance network resilience along the Asia-Africa-Europe corridor. Mohamed Nasr of Telecom Egypt emphasized their ongoing commitment to developing subsea cable infrastructure through collaborations like this one.

The consortium members have each expressed their commitment to ensuring successful delivery of this transformative infrastructure project aimed at shaping global connectivity’s future.
