Council of Saudi Chambers issued the following announcement on Aug. 29.

I met with Chairman of the local government body content management and procurement Dr. Ghassan Ben Abdarahmans Cub yesterday (Sunday) at the headquarters of the Council of Saudi Chambers, a number of members of the National Committee of the contractors in the Council of Saudi Chambers , headed by Chairman of the Committee Eng Fahd Nasban.

During the meeting , to discuss the major challenges and obstacles facing the construction sector in the Kingdom, as well as to make proposals and recommendations for ways to solve them, and that will contribute to the advancement of this important and vital sector and work to upgrade it to serve compatible state projects with the Vision 2030 Kingdom and the protection of its investors.

Dr. Ghassan bin Abdul Rahman Al-Shebl, Chairman of the Local Content and Government Purchasing Authority, said that the construction sector is one of the most vital sectors in the Kingdom, as it is an engine for many sectors including the industrial sector, in addition to the accompanying services, whether consultancy or engineering services..

He added d. Ghassan Al-Shebel, we hope all workers in the sector to pay attention to the development of local content to contribute to the realization of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which reflects on the existence of a sustainable economy.

For his part, Chairman of the National Committee for Contractors in the Council of Saudi Chambers Eng. Fahad Al-Nisban, said that the construction sector in the Kingdom enjoys rapid development and growth, which is one of the most important sectors contributing to the achievement of sustainable development and economic nerve for many economic sectors.

He added that the success of this sector depends on the availability of advanced infrastructure that contributes to driving the economic development in the Kingdom.The importance of this sector comes through its contribution to the GDP, which reached about 151 billion riyals in 2018, which represents 6.2 The sector contributes to the employment of more than 144 thousand Saudis in all its economic activities.

Despite these achievements, the construction sector still suffers from some problems and obstacles that led to its negative growth rates of 3.5 % in 2018, and we hope that these meetings will contribute to enhancing cooperation between state and sector institutions. The private sector in solving the obstacles and challenges facing the sector which will enable it to achieve positive growth rates in the coming years.

He praised the efforts exerted by the government through the concerned authorities, including the Local Content Authority and the government procurement, to overcome these obstacles through reforms that work on them, which will contribute, God willing, to stimulate the private sector, and strengthen its role in the growth and prosperity of the national economy, Promoting the growth of local content in economic sectors, making the Kingdom’s economy based on productivity, and encouraging the private sector to move from a traditional sector to a developed and efficient sector that meets local and international demand.

ABU DHABI UNIVERSITY: Reaching 75% Construction Completion

ADU an internationally recognized academic institution for quality education and applied research, has announced completion of 75% of the construction of its AED300 million new campus in Al Ain’s Asharej district. With over 400 laborers working on the development of the new campus, applying the highest health and safety standards and the safety regulations of the Civil Defense for 2018, the building also meets One-Pearl Estidama requirements for design and operation sustainability.
