Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) reported a Sustainability Culture Index reading of 92.67% for 2024, based on a survey involving approximately 4,000 employees. This index assesses employee awareness of sustainability concepts and their commitment to implementing them at work.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, expressed satisfaction with the results, highlighting DEWA’s dedication to fostering a culture of sustainability among its workforce. He stated that DEWA was the first government entity to integrate sustainability into its vision and strategic plan. This aligns with leadership directives to balance economic growth with environmental protection while investing in human capital.
“Sustainability is a core pillar of all our operations,” said Al Tayer. “We adopt a comprehensive strategy to instil a culture of sustainability among all stakeholders and engage employees, customers and members of the community in our environmental and resource conservation efforts.”
Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, emphasized management’s commitment to embedding sustainability into daily operations. “DEWA continues to implement and support initiatives that demonstrate the positive impact of sustainability at a corporate level,” he noted.
Mohammed Abdulkareem Al Shamsi, Chief Climate Change & Sustainability Officer at DEWA, highlighted the role of the Sustainability Leadership Team in promoting sustainable practices. The ‘Sustainability Connect’ initiative has been successful in engaging employees through educational programs like ‘Sustainability Talks’. Since May 2024, these sessions have involved 3,870 employees across various activities.
The initiative also includes internal competitions aimed at enhancing knowledge about energy efficiency standards such as ISO 50001. A trivia competition concluded these efforts by testing staff knowledge on DEWA’s Sustainability Report for 2024.
