HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has received a Guinness World Records certificate for the ‘Zayed and Rashid Mural.’ This mural has been recognized as the world’s largest tile mosaic. In December 2024, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, inaugurated the mosaic. It depicts a historical photograph of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum from the foundation period of the UAE.
The artwork covers an area of 2,198.70 square meters and was created by more than 100 artisans using 1.2 million tiles. DEWA collaborated with Brand Dubai to implement this project on the slope of the Hatta Dam falls.
“This mosaic, the largest of its kind in the world, reflects the esteemed status of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum,” said Al Tayer. He added that it adds historical value to DEWA’s Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project and highlights innovation, creativity, and development in the UAE.
The Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project is part of DEWA’s efforts to enhance sustainability in Dubai with an investment of approximately AED 60 million. The authority aims to position Dubai as a model for clean energy while promoting ecotourism in Hatta.
Water from these falls flows into a canal that divides into four main oases surrounded by restaurants, cafes, and retail stores. The design is inspired by beehives, reflecting Hatta’s reputation for high-quality honey.
In line with sustainable energy goals, DEWA is also constructing a 250MW pumped-storage hydroelectric power station in Hatta. This facility will support Dubai’s Clean Energy Strategy 2050 by utilizing water from both Hatta Dam and an upper reservoir to generate electricity efficiently through advanced turbines.
