Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has awarded a contract valued at AED 289 million to expand the water transmission network connected to the Hassyan water plant. The Hassyan facility is recognized as one of the largest seawater reverse-osmosis projects globally and is being developed under the independent water producer model.
The new contract includes supplying, installing, testing, and commissioning main water transmission lines made from glass-reinforced epoxy. These pipelines will have a diameter of 1,200 millimetres and will extend for 32 kilometres.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, said, “The Hassyan water plant is a fundamental pillar of Dubai’s water security system, supporting the UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 and the Dubai Integrated Water Resource Management Strategy 2030.” He added that this infrastructure project will “strengthen network resilience and capacity to meet growing demand, reinforcing sustainability and reliability for generations to come.”
The expansion works are scheduled for completion within 18 months. Once finished, they are expected to enhance Dubai’s advanced water infrastructure.
