On the occasion of Emirati Women’s Day, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), highlighted the progress made by the United Arab Emirates in empowering women.
“On Emirati Women’s Day, we celebrate the local and global unprecedented accomplishments achieved by the UAE in empowering women and raising their status in society. This national occasion embodies an affirmation of the firm approach established by the late Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and supported by the wise directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE; His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; and Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Mother of the Nation, Chairwoman of the General Women’sUnion, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, for the continuity of women’s empowerment in various fields. In the Year of Community, we congratulate Emirati women for their giving and dedication to consolidating the values of society, protecting the family and preparing responsible generations capable of advancing the prosperity of both country and society,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer.
Al Tayer also outlined DEWA’s efforts to promote gender diversity within its workforce. “We, at DEWA, work to support the establishment of global standards for institutional work that supports Emirati women, and to hone their leadership, administrative, supervisory, engineering and technical skills in a way that meets their aspirations to bring about real change in sustainability, renewable energy and other vital sectors. The number of female employees at DEWA reached 1,938 across all our divisions. This includes 835 women in the engineering and technical sector and many female employees in leadership positions. Around 1,206 women occupy supervisory positions at DEWA. Emirati women constitute 85% of the total female workforce. DEWA Women’s Committee is an important tributary to our efforts to provide a positive work environment that stimulates creativity, excellence, leadership and development, where everyone participates in shaping a more inclusive, sustainable, prosperous and resilient future,” added Al Tayer.
