Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has certified 1,115 specialists as solar photovoltaic (PV) consultants and contractors through 38 training courses conducted in 2024. This initiative is part of DEWA’s ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive training for the accreditation of professionals involved in installing solar systems on buildings under the Shams Dubai initiative.
The training program includes both theoretical and practical courses that focus on technical aspects related to PV system installation, compliance with safety standards, and adherence to DEWA’s technical guidelines. As a result, 111 companies have been enrolled to participate in the design and implementation of Shams Dubai projects.
“In line with the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050 to provide 100% of the Emirate’s energy production capacity from clean energy sources by 2050, we are committed to providing the latest technologies, the best tools, and training and awareness programmes to enhance the participation of all community members in driving the transition to clean and renewable energy,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. “We facilitate the work of contractors and consultants and help them design and instal solar PV energy systems in buildings in accordance with the highest standards of quality, efficiency and sustainability.”
Shams Dubai enables householders and building owners to install PV panels for solar energy generation while maintaining seamless connectivity with DEWA’s grid. Currently, solar PV systems connected to DEWA’s distribution network have a combined capacity of 725 megawatts (MW), distributed across more than 8,430 buildings in Dubai.
