The Sustainability and Innovation Centre at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has marked the graduation of the fifth cohort from its CleanTech Youth Programme. The initiative is designed to equip young people with skills and knowledge in clean energy and sustainability, aiming to foster future leaders in these fields. Since its inception, 117 participants have completed the programme, many of whom are now involved in research projects related to sustainability.
HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, commented on the significance of the programme: “We believe that investing in young people is the best investment for a sustainable future based on knowledge and innovation. The CleanTech Youth Programme supports our efforts to achieve the vision and directives of the wise leadership to empower the youth as a key driver of innovation and to qualify them to lead the sustainable development process. The programme contributes to preparing the next generation of sustainability leaders, enhancing the role of young people in shaping a future based on creativity and knowledge, and engaging them in developing innovative solutions for the future of energy. This consolidates Dubai’s leading position as a global sustainability hub and achieves DEWA’s vision to be a globally leading sustainable innovative corporation committed to achieving net zero by 2050. The programme also promotes a culture of research and development in renewable energy and smart technologies to support the objectives of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050.”
Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence at DEWA, said: “Since its launch, the CleanTech Youth Programme has become an integrated platform for developing youth capabilities in renewable energy, innovation and sustainable development. The programme also highlights the pivotal role of the Sustainability and Innovation Centre as an educational and awareness platform linking the youth, academia and business to unite efforts towards a common goal of advancing sustainability practices and supporting the transition towards a low-carbon economy.”
The latest cycle included interactive workshops, site visits, and practical training at DEWA’s Sustainability and Innovation Centre. Participants studied topics such as clean technology advancements, energy efficiency measures, green hydrogen applications, and leadership roles within sustainability initiatives.
