Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is applying behavioural science and digital tools to help households in Dubai manage electricity and water consumption more efficiently this summer. The utility has launched a series of digital services designed to provide real-time data, social comparisons, and personalised advice based on individual usage patterns.

Under its campaign “Expand Your Smart Choices This Summer,” DEWA is encouraging customers to use these new solutions to improve efficiency and lower their carbon footprint during the hot months. The campaign includes several initiatives aimed at helping residents make informed decisions about their energy and water use.

The Smart Living Initiative enables customers to monitor their bills, tariff brackets, and track daily, weekly, or monthly consumption through a dashboard available on DEWA’s smart app and website.

Through the My Sustainable Living Programme, customers can compare their consumption with similar high-efficiency homes in their area using a dedicated dashboard. The programme also provides tailored tips and monthly reports to support a more sustainable lifestyle. Customers can access these features by logging into their account on the app or website, reviewing the dashboard, and seeing how their household’s performance stacks up against others.

Another feature, the Consumption Assessment Tool, allows residential users to fill out a detailed survey about their home and receive an immediate report that analyses usage patterns. The tool then offers specific suggestions for improving efficiency. By increasing awareness of individual consumption habits, DEWA aims to help residents take practical steps toward reducing waste.

Additional services include High Water Usage Alert—which notifies users instantly of abnormal consumption that could indicate leaks—and Away Mode, which lets customers track utility use while traveling by receiving regular email updates.

DEWA also provides practical tips for reducing waste such as sealing openings with insulation strips, unplugging appliances when not in use, setting thermostats appropriately for air conditioners and refrigerators, using smart irrigation systems, and running dishwashers or washing machines only with full loads. More information on managing summer consumption is available at https://www.dewa.gov.ae/summer.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA said: “We strive to enrich our customers’ experience through digital services that employ behavioural science principles. These innovative tools are designed to empower individuals to actively participate in building a sustainable future for Dubai by optimising electricity and water consumption.”

By offering these tools and recommendations online through its app and website platform https://www.dewa.gov.ae/summer, DEWA continues efforts toward supporting responsible resource management among Dubai residents.
