Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has concluded its 16th Future Engineer summer camp, which took place from August 4 to August 15. The camp hosted 30 children of DEWA employees, aged between 10 and 12. Over the past ten years, the initiative has involved a total of 494 participants, with many alumni pursuing careers in engineering. The programme aims to prepare young people for future challenges in science and technology while supporting Dubai’s sustainability goals.
This year’s programme included a lecture on child safety and societal responsibility, held in collaboration with the Community Development Authority. Participants also attended a first-aid workshop by Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services to learn essential life skills. A visit to AYA Universe at Wafi City provided an interactive learning experience.
The camp offered sessions covering digital engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and 3D printing. There was also a focus on digital awareness, information security, and personal development activities that highlighted national identity as well as DEWA’s environmental values. Pupils were encouraged to turn their ideas into practical projects to build confidence and problem-solving abilities.
Parents responded positively to the programme’s approach combining educational content with hands-on experiences. Yahya Al-Mulla, a DEWA employee whose son participated in the camp, said: “The programme had a positive impact on his personality as he became more enthusiastic and engaged with scientific materials. He was very happy to join the children of other DEWA employees during this event. I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to the trainers and those in charge of this programme for their efforts in making it a success and ensuring it benefits our children,” said Al-Mulla.
Shaikha Almheiri, another employee whose son joined the camp, noted: “This programme had a positive impact on Ahmed’s personality and increased his awareness about the important role sustainability and innovation play in serving society and the country. As parents, we appreciate this pioneering initiative by DEWA, which fosters a sense of belonging and supports the building of an aware and innovative generation capable of contributing to the UAE’s sustainable development process. In conclusion, I extend my sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who cared for my son, taught him and was keen to give him this special experience,” said Almheiri.
The Future Engineer summer camp is designed to provide young people with skills needed for advancements in innovation and technology. According to DEWA, both pupils and parents reported complete satisfaction with this year’s programme.
