Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is focusing on empowering students, university attendees, and educators with the latest in clean and renewable energy technologies. DEWA aims to expand knowledge and refine talents, fostering a spirit of research, creativity, and innovation among young people pursuing scientific studies. The organization introduces these groups to its key projects and initiatives supporting national goals and sustainable development.
“We are keen to fulfil the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to equip young people with the skills necessary to sustain progress and prepare a generation that is confident in its capabilities, proud of its values and identity, and able to compete globally across all fields. This will support the journey of anticipating, shaping and implementing a sustainable future,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
“At DEWA, we believe in the importance of collective efforts to ensure optimal investment in human capital. We are dedicated to playing our social and national role by providing an educational environment that enhances the readiness of future generations to seize opportunities, face challenges and adapt to ongoing developments. This also fosters engagement and co-operation across all segments of society. During the Year of Community in the UAE, we are accelerating our efforts to firmly position Dubai as a premier hub of continuous innovation, knowledge advancement and sustainable development,” Al Tayer added.
DEWA welcomes delegations from schools and universities to explore major projects such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park—the largest single-site solar park globally—and other facilities like the Sustainability and Innovation Centre. Students also have opportunities at events like WETEX to learn about innovations from local and international companies.
In 2024 alone, DEWA’s power stations hosted 43 school visits involving 2,990 pupils. The Sustainability Centre welcomed 2,353 visitors while 44 visited the Research Centre. WETEX saw participation from 3,776 students.
DEWA’s annual summer camp offers educational activities for children covering technology and innovation topics while promoting teamwork. Training programs integrate students into professional environments during summer breaks. Additionally, ‘Future Engineer’ camps aim at skill development in areas like cybersecurity for employees’ children.
The CleanTech Youth Programme prepares future leaders in clean energy through theoretical activities complemented by site visits across major sustainability projects within the UAE.
