HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), met with a high-level delegation from Google Cloud led by Ziad Jammal, General Manager for Google Cloud in the UAE, Levant, and North Africa. The meeting included DEWA’s Executive Vice Presidents Marwan Bin Haidar and Waleed bin Salman, as well as Mohammed Bin Sulaiman, CEO of Moro Hub.

During this meeting, DEWA announced a strategic partnership with Google Cloud to incorporate generative AI into its operations using Google Cloud’s NotebookLM technology. This collaboration aims to enhance DEWA’s capabilities in AI-generated content creation such as podcasts, enabling rapid production times and consistent quality across multiple languages. The initiative is part of DEWA’s efforts to become the world’s first AI-native utility.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer stated: “In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum for the UAE to be a global leader in adopting artificial intelligence (AI), we are collaborating with Google Cloud to integrate gen AI across DEWA’s operations. This initiative is aligned with the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence 2031, which aims to position the UAE among the leading countries in this field by investing in its people and vital industries. We have a comprehensive plan to make DEWA the world’s first AI-native utility by integrating advanced gen AI technologies into our core operations.”

The use of NotebookLM has resulted in more than a 99% reduction in production costs and over a 95% improvement in turnaround time compared to traditional methods. These improvements have enabled DEWA to efficiently meet communication goals while reallocating resources strategically without incurring additional operational burdens. The initiative reportedly results in an annual cost avoidance of AED 25.5 million.

Ziad Jammal commented: “We are incredibly proud to partner with DEWA, a true pioneer in leveraging generative AI to transform their operations. DEWA’s achievement with NotebookLM showcases the immense power of AI in driving tangible business value.”

This partnership highlights how collaborative innovation can accelerate AI adoption within the utility sector, promoting sustainability and digital excellence.

As DEWA advances its use of AI technologies through strategic partnerships like this one with Google Cloud, it continues on its path toward becoming an industry leader in sustainable innovation.
