Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has received the 2025 ‘Best Innovation’ award at the UK’s Best Business Awards. The recognition was given to DEWA’s Power and Water Planning Division for its work on the “Shaheen” digital programme, which focuses on maintaining distribution power quality according to DEWA standards and increasing customer satisfaction with the Shams Dubai initiative.

The Shaheen programme integrates software solutions and smart systems to ensure that customer requests comply with DEWA’s power quality standards from the outset through a pre-assessment process. This approach has resulted in financial savings for customers of more than AED 8.25 million. Additionally, research based on Shaheen’s findings has been presented at major conferences in both the UAE and the United States.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, stated that this achievement supports leadership goals related to innovation and sustainability.

“Winning the Best Innovation award at the UK Business Awards is a new global testament to the excellence of DEWA’s projects and initiatives. It underlines our success in harnessing the latest digital technologies and artificial intelligence to enhance the efficiency of the energy sector. The Shaheen programme represents an innovative model that contributes to advancing the transition to clean energy and supports sustainable development in Dubai and the UAE. This achievement is the result of the efforts of a dedicated and creative team that supports DEWA’s efforts to consolidate Dubai’s leading position as a global capital for the green economy and innovation,” said Al Tayer.

Joe Calder, chairman of judges at Best Business Awards, commented on DEWA’s win: “Congratulations to DEWA for implementing an award-winning and innovative digital assessment programme that has improved the efficiency of evaluating distributed photovoltaic systems.”

DEWA plans further development of Shaheen in alignment with both Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim for all energy production capacity in Dubai to come from clean sources by 2050. The organisation also continues efforts toward localising knowledge transfer for ongoing innovation.

The Best Business Awards are known internationally for recognising companies across sectors that demonstrate excellence, creativity, leadership, performance, and sustainability.
