Dewa renews BS 13500 certification for effective governance management systems

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has successfully renewed its BS 13500 certification in Effective Governance Management Systems for the ninth consecutive year. This renewal follows a comprehensive audit conducted by the British Standards Institution (BSI), underscoring DEWA’s commitment to maintaining high standards of corporate governance.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, received the certificate during a ceremony attended by key officials, including Waleed bin Salman, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Excellence, Dr Ali Al Muwaijei, Vice President of Governance, Compliance and Agility, along with members of the governance team.

Al Tayer stated, “We implement the highest international standards in good governance through an integrated system of organisational policies, procedures and controls that support our strategic goals of excellence in organisational work, ensuring the sustainability of resources and enhancing operational and financial efficiency. This has made DEWA a global benchmark for good governance in the utilities sector. The renewal of the BS 13500 certification for the ninth consecutive year reflects our commitment to establishing a culture of excellence, transparency and accountability across all our operations. This enhances the confidence of customers, partners and investors, and contributes to achieving sustainable value for all stakeholders.”

Waleed bin Salman highlighted that DEWA “adopts an integrated approach to corporate governance based on local and federal guidelines,” aligning with directives from international bodies such as the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and specifications from BSI.

Dr Ali Al Muwaijei emphasized that DEWA’s governance framework includes essential elements like board oversight, a clear organisational structure, well-documented strategies, and proper delegation of authority.
