HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has reported a 23.6% increase in the use of electric vehicle (EV) charging at the end of the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2024. Since its launch in 2015, DEWA’s Green Charger initiative has supplied over 39,159 MWh of electricity for EV charging across Dubai, facilitating a cumulative EV travel distance of 195 million kilometers.
“We support the transition towards green mobility and net zero by reducing the carbon footprint in the transport sector, enhancing the competitiveness of the UAE and Dubai in the electric vehicle sector, in line with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategy and the Dubai Green Mobility Strategy 2030,” stated Al Tayer.
Dubai has experienced significant growth in EV adoption since 2015, with numbers reaching over 39,000 by Q1 2025—a rise of 5.41% from Q1 2024. This development aligns with efforts to promote sustainable transportation. The number of EV owners registered under DEWA’s EV Green Charger initiative increased from just 14 in its inaugural year to 20,903 by Q1 2025. The city now boasts more than 1,100 charging points through DEWA’s network and licensed charge point operators.
Demand for EVs is rising within the UAE. A survey conducted by Toluna revealed that 73% of UAE residents prefer purchasing electric vehicles.
EV Green Charger Stations operate continuously at strategic locations throughout Dubai. Customers can locate these stations via DEWA’s website, smart app, or other digital platforms. DEWA provides four types of chargers: ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box.
Customers can establish an EV account through DEWA’s website or smart app after registering their vehicle with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). This registration grants access to charge vehicles within an hour at any station. Unregistered users may also utilize DEWA’s chargers using a guest mode feature.
