The Research and Development Centre at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) announced that its OmniHub IoT terminal has obtained CE product certification, indicating compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards. The certification follows successful completion of all testing requirements in a single development cycle from concept through to delivery and maintenance.

According to DEWA, the OmniHub terminal features advanced connectivity capabilities, including integration with the DEWASAT-1 nanosatellite. This development is part of DEWA’s Space-D programme, which aims to connect terrestrial sensors with both satellite and ground-based networks. The R&D Centre was responsible for designing and manufacturing the device, including its 3D-printed encasing.

Multiple OmniHub terminals have been operational in field settings for over six months. These installations have met the operational needs of different DEWA business units.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director & CEO of DEWA, said: “In line with the wise directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, we are contributing to the development of the space sector and various related sectors, as well as the transition towards a diversified, knowledge-based economy. Thanks to its environment that stimulates innovation and excellence, DEWA’s R&D Centre has become a key driver for achieving the National Space Strategy 2030 and supporting the space industry and its various activities, including government space activities, commercial activities and scientific activities.”

OmniHub meets DEWA’s operational technology requirements by offering multi-technology connectivity options such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy, Narrowband Internet of Things (NB-IoT), LTE CAT-M, LoRa/LoRaWAN protocols. The device supports strong communication abilities while complying with stringent security standards for both OT and IT environments. Its battery lasts up to six months under low-power consumption settings. It is also designed to perform reliably in harsh conditions like dust or moisture.

The terminal aligns with international standards for device security across connected devices. Remote management is enabled via a digital IoT platform hosted by Moro Hub—an entity under Digital DEWA—which manages connected devices remotely through its data centre infrastructure.
