HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), has accepted the Energy Infrastructure Award at the 2024 S&P Global Platts Energy Awards. The award was given for the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park. DEWA is the first utility in the Middle East and North Africa to win this award, surpassing 1,000 other companies.

The Platts Global Energy Awards are organized by S&P Global Commodity Insights. They recognize excellence in various sectors of the energy industry, including sustainability, innovation, energy infrastructure, and technology. Known as the ‘Oscars of the energy industry,’ these awards have been held annually since 1999.

“Guided by the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, excellence has become a genuine and continuous approach in the UAE,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer. He added that this achievement highlights DEWA’s role in innovation and renewable energy.

The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is noted as being the largest single-site solar park globally using an independent power producer model. DEWA plans to increase its production capacity to 7,260 megawatts by 2030 from its current capacity of 3,860 megawatts. The fourth phase has also achieved four Guinness World Records.
