Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has been honored with two Reuters Global Energy Transition Awards 2025, presented by Thomson Reuters. The awards recognize DEWA’s commitment to sustainability. The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park was awarded the ‘Low Carbon Energy Generation’ award, while DEWA’s Sustainability and Innovation Centre received the ‘Transition Advocator’ award.
“We are committed to achieving the vision of our wise leadership and adopting excellence and innovation as a solid organisational approach to realise further achievements that reflect Dubai’s aspirations. The awards received by DEWA reflect our tireless efforts to implement the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, which aim to provide 100% of Dubai’s energy production capacity from clean sources by 2050,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park is recognized as the largest single-site solar park globally, utilizing the Independent Power Producer model. DEWA aims to increase its production capacity to 7,260MW by 2030. Currently, it produces 3,860MW using advanced photovoltaic solar panels and Concentrated Solar Power technologies. The fourth phase set four Guinness World Records: longest continuous CSP plant operation; tallest CSP tower at 263.126 meters; largest thermal energy storage facility with a capacity of 5,907 megawatt-hours using CSP based on a parabolic basin complex and molten salt technology; highest capacity single-operator CSP plant at 700MW.
The Sustainability and Innovation Centre has earned a Platinum Rating for green buildings from Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). It serves as an incubator for innovations in renewable energy and aims to foster business investment in sustainable fields. It offers professional programs in collaboration with strategic partners like universities and start-ups. Featuring 35 interactive exhibits, it provides visitors with experiences through technologies such as metaverse, drones, holograms, and autonomous bus rides. The centre has also won awards including Net Zero Building Project of the Year at the MENA Green Building Awards.
The ‘Low Carbon Energy Generation’ award acknowledges projects demonstrating significant green energy performance that promote energy transition. The ‘Transition Advocator’ award honors individuals or teams dedicated to facilitating net zero transitions through education, policy change, and initiatives promoting cleaner energy futures.
