The Youth Council of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is increasing its efforts to involve young employees in social responsibility and volunteer work. The council is working to encourage a culture of giving among DEWA’s youth, in line with national goals set by the UAE’s Year of Community under the ‘Hand in Hand’ theme and Dubai Social Agenda 33. These initiatives aim to build a sense of shared responsibility, particularly among young people, to support social, economic, and sustainable development.
DEWA has outlined its strategy to empower youth for leadership roles in sustainability and the energy transition while promoting Emirati values. The organization reports that its young employees are actively supporting projects that address environmental, economic, and social challenges.
Aysha Mohammad Alremeithi, President of DEWA’s Youth Council, said: “With the support of DEWA’s top management, we organise events to inspire and qualify the youth to create a sustainable positive social impact and consolidate the values of belonging, giving and community cohesion. We have strengthened the spirit of taking the initiative among DEWA’s youth, broadening their engagement in community work so they can serve as the foundation for sustainable and inclusive development. The eagerness of young people to engage in volunteer work and community initiatives highlights their profound sense of national awareness and responsibility, showcasing their ability to give back to both society and the nation.”
Issa Al Zarouni, a member of DEWA’s Youth Council, stated that voluntary initiatives provide opportunities for young staff members to turn values into action: “We sense the magnitude of the responsibility that falls on us as young people to build a more sustainable and cohesive future. DEWA’s empowerment of us enhances our skills, not only that, but it also gives us a real platform to contribute to achieving the vision of the wise leadership and the goals of the Year of Community.”
Hamda Al Falasi added that participation in local projects shows how empathy can have widespread effects: “By taking purposeful and impactful actions, we strive to offer support and foster positivity. As members of DEWA’s Youth Council, we take pride in advancing DEWA’s mission and truly exemplifying its commitment to serving the community and making a meaningful difference.”
During Ramadan 2025, DEWA’s Youth Council took part in distributing 4,620 iftar meals through an initiative called ‘Your Iftar on us and your safety is our priority’. This was organized with Dubai Youth Council alongside Emirates Red Crescent involving ten government agencies. The effort aimed at promoting traffic safety while encouraging generosity during Ramadan.
In other activities throughout 2025:
– The council recognized volunteers through its third ‘Our Youth, Our Pride’ event.
– It participated in ‘Eid Joy’, an initiative by Tawazun Council with Emirates Red Crescent providing Eid supplies for families across the UAE.
– Members visited children at Al Jalila Hospital delivering gifts.
– Art workshops were held during Sikka Art & Design Festival with Dubai Culture focusing on Emirati heritage crafts.
– On World Youth Skills Day 2025 there was pottery training with Yadawei Ceramic Studio; another session introduced generative AI concepts via Microsoft.
– Outdoor trips such as one at Mushrif Park promoted healthy lifestyles.
– During ‘Summer Camp 2025’, school workshops were organized about efficient use of electricity and water.
These programs reflect ongoing attempts by both DEWA’s management team and its younger employees toward enhancing civic involvement among staff members while aligning with broader government objectives.
