Dubai Health Authority (DHA) recently won the “Outstanding Joint Government Project” category for its Mobile Eye Clinic at the Dubai Government Excellence Program Award.

DHA accepted the award in collaboration with Noor Dubai and Dubai Road and Transport Authority (RTA).

A DHA employee was honored with a win in the “Unknown Soldier” category. Jaafar Al Mahmadi received the award for his exceptional work performance.

The aim of the Mobile Eye Clinic is to provide vision care to those in Dubai who cannot afford the screenings themselves. Visitors to the clinic often include school children, bus drivers, laborers and the elderly.

His Excellency Humaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board and Director-General of DHA, referred to the Mobile Eye Clinic as the first of many humanitarian and health related projects by the DHA that will be brought to the region.

He cited the award as a motivation for other government departments to serve the people of Dubai in the best possible capacity.

“We took a RTA bus that was initially used for public transport and transformed it into two eye clinics,” Dr. Manal Taryam, CEO of the Primary Health Care Services Sector at DHA, said. “We have so far provided 4,857 free eye screenings and 626 glasses. We also provide free medication to those who need them while others who require surgery are referred to Dubai Hospital.”

Taryam said the mobile clinic focuses on charitable acts, especially for those who cannot reach or afford vision care. The clinic aims to provide patients with the needed screenings and treatments to better eye health.

The clinic’s efforts also include preventing blindness within the citizens of the United Arab Emirates, specifically the elderly and laborers, as well as reducing the number of people who have to visit hospitals for diagnosis and treatment.
